Virtual
Private Networks and Firewalls
With 'always on' Internet connections, such as Broadband ADSL or Leased
Circuits, now implemented in most businesses, there should always be a
firewall in place to control inbound intrusion, and outbound access to
un-secure sites. Firewalls provide a powerful solution for preventing
unauthorised access on to a network. However, in some instances it will
be necessary to allow access to a network across the public Internet.
A secure way of achieving this is by using a Virtual Private Network (VPN).
A VPN allows for encrypted traffic to pass from one point to another via the internet. A tunnel is created between the two points ensuring that the data cannot be read by other users of the internet
